Psychological Therapy Services
Psychological Therapies Service (Primary care)
The psychological therapy service offers counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy to people over the age of 16 years who are not in full-time education and who are registered with a GP in Shetland.
You will need to be referred by your GP or by another mental health professional. You will be offered an assessment appointment. If the service is suitable for your needs you will then go on to access the appropriate therapy for up to eight sessions.
Clinical Psychology Service (Secondary care)
The clinical psychology service is embedded within the Community Mental Health team (CMHT). A referral to clinical psychology occurs after appropriate screening by the CMHT. The cases seen by clinical psychology tend to be long standing, severe and complex psychological disorders which require specialist assessment and formulation to support ongoing multidisciplinary intervention. A group intervention or individual appointment may be offered depending on the nature of the issue.
