NHSScotland is using a new text message service to ensure our patient waiting lists are up to date and that patients still need their appointments.
NHS Shetland patients who are waiting for an appointment will receive a text message from the NHSScotland National Elective Coordination Unit (NECU) on mobile number 07860 039092 with a link to answer a couple of questions that will allow us to update our records.
To help patients understand what this means for them in the isles, NHS Shetland has prepared the following Q&A for further information and support.
1) I have been on the waiting list a long time, now that I’ve received a text/call does that mean I’ll be seen imminently?
No - appointments will be offered on a clinical need basis. As part of this, you will be asked to provide any updates on your condition which may affect your position on the waiting list.
2) I am on the waiting list but I have opted not to receive calls or texts, will I receive a letter instead?
If you have opted not to receive calls or texts, you will not be contacted by the NECU team. You will receive a letter at a later date from NHS Shetland.
Patients with a landline number only on our patient management system will be receive a phone call from a member of the team.
3) My contact details have changed since I first joined the waiting list, how can I update them?
Contact the Medical Records Team via the switchboard 01595 743000.
6) If I do not respond, will I be automatically removed from a waiting list?
No – You will be contacted again at a later date by NHS Shetland.
7) I have received a text but who can I speak to at NHS Shetland about my appointment?
Patients should follow the instruction in the text, and contact the NECU team for any queries via gjnh.necuadmin@gjnh.scot.nhs.uk For general queries around their appointment they should contact the physiotherapy department via the switchboard 01595 743000.
8) I haven’t received a text, call or letter. I have been waiting a long time and think that I should be included. Will I be contacted?
Contact the physiotherapy department via the switchboard 01595 743000.
