Gary robinson

Gary Robinson took up his appointment as Chair of NHS Shetland in August 2018. Gary was previously the Leader of Shetland Islands Council where he had been responsible for leading the Authority into its first Health and Social Care Integration Scheme.

Gary was a co-founder of the Our Islands, Our Future campaign and a member of the Islands Areas Ministerial Working Group, whose combined work culminated in the Islands Act that was approved by the Scottish Parliament in 2018.

A keen environmentalist, Gary also served on the Joint Ministerial Task Group on the Circular Economy which contributed towards Scotland's waste and recycling strategy which was published in 2016. This strategy is aimed at reducing our demand on the planet's natural resources.

Gary worked in the sport and leisure industry for many years and firmly believes in the benefits of sport and physical activity for health and wellbeing. He is an advocate for the Nature Prescribing that was pioneered in Shetland and retains his membership of the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity.
